Lachish district police on Monday are investigating the shooting death of an Israeli man who climbed the border fence at Eretz Crossing to Gaza, failing to adhere to orders from soldiers to halt. Soldiers acted in accordance to protocol, warning the man to stop, firing in the air, firing to wound him and finally firing at him, assuming the suspect was a terrorist climbing the fence.
Preliminary findings indicate the victim may have been mentally unstable. The investigation continues. One witness told authorities that earlier in the morning, he saw the victim in an area hospital, where his unstable mental condition was determined.
