I find it a bit embarrasing that a community as affluent as toronto should need to come onto other communities and their tzedakah to support their mosdos
A similiar concept occured after hurricane sandy when the 5towns came collecting in lakewood and flatbush to help the families with homes destroyed while i am all for giving tzedakah “anei eircha kodmin”so instead of all the CELEBRITY style tzedakah like building dedications for millions and names plastered across they should focus on the real needs without so much paparrazzi
I actually don’t understand why they need to collect Tzedaka because when they started the project last year there were a few sponsors who paid for it & those sponsors went as far as to keep the Gabbai out of the construction project which looks like it’s completed. The only thing I could think of is that the project cost more than they thought.
Lachshov, you owe a lot of people in the Five Towns an apology for such an ignorant, cruel and pointless statement.
Firstly, Sandy caused damage in the tens of millions of dollars. People were left homeless. There was no electricity for two weeks, no refrigeration or power for those fortunate enough to remain in homes. Those forced out of their homes were in fear of being looted and robbed. Many had no homes left over at all. It was a Klal Yisroel problem. For you to bury your head in the sand and “pater” yourself from tzedaka, rachmanus, and common decency is Midas S’dom, not Midas B’nei Avraham.
Secondly, I do not believe there is a greater number of “paparazzi” Baalei tzedaka in The Five Towns than in any other neighborhood, including Lakewood and Flatbush. Perhaps there is a greater number of over-all Baalei Tzedaka in the Five Towns than in Lakewood and Flatbush and you suffer from jealousy or nisht-farginning.
Either way, if you’re too cheap to write a check or too far-bittered in life to be “nosei b’oil chaveiro” do some soul searching before pointing a pathetic finger at other people.
