Rav Shmuel Eliyahu Questions Rabbinical Support for Prisoner Deal

sel.jpgTzfas Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu was interviewed by Arutz-7 regarding ongoing efforts to complete a prisoner exchange deal that would result in the release of close to 1,000 terrorists in exchange for Gilad Shalit’s release.

Rav Eliyahu asks how chareidi and other shomer shabbos MKs, Ministers and rabbonim can support such a deal, which simply contradicts torah law. The rav quoted various halachic sources addressing the mitzvah of pidyon shvuyim and its boundaries as per halachic dictate, stating by all opinions, the release of 1,000 terrorists contradicts all halachic opinions on the matter.

Regarding Shalit’s plight, the rabbi stated the water and electric to Gaza should be turned off until Shalit is returned home, and his release cannot be achieved by the release of murderers.

He added people cannot vote for someone like Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who ignores torah.

  1. How can one expect the PM to be guided by the Torah when he never grew up with it. It is the responsibility of the Shomer Shabbos MKs, ministers, and Rabbonim to influence the PM to make the correct decision. The blame should be put squarely on them.

  2. to avreich man, who for example are these leaders, i didn`t hear anyone saying something about this deal. don`t be to pushed by feelings we are still have to follow the torah.

  3. As per #2: We have much more respected rabbinical leaders who have no problem with this deal.

Who does he think he is? As for #3, how about Rav Eliashiv, and I also heard Rav Kanievsky, and I think also Rav Ovadia Yosef?
