Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is in the news again, this time for his abuse of prison authority regulations. According to the Channel 2 News Online report, Olmert has been visited by no less than 37 attorneys during his 3.5 months in prison.
Each time Olmert signed a document as required, attesting to the fact the visiting attorney is tending to his affairs. However, Israel Prison Service officials have finally realized most of the visitors are simply friends who are attorneys and Olmert lied when he said they are taking care of his affairs. He used this to receive far more visitors than entitled to.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has become involved and Israel Prison Authority officials have been ordered to restrict Olmert’s visitors as per new regulations which permits up to three visits from law offices a week and no more than one visit from a law office per day, which may include a number of attorneys from the same law office. Each visit may not exceed 45 minutes.
