The Yeshiva Gedolah of Waterbury will quiet an uproar over illegal student dormitories in the Hillside and Overlook neighborhoods by purchasing a nine-story apartment building on Pine Street for use as student housing.

School officials and their attorney appeared before the Zoning Commission Monday night to answer critics who have complained about more than a dozen one- and two-family houses currently used as makeshift dorms. City land-use codes do not allow for boarding houses in these areas.
