MK Yisrael Eichler in a Knesset plenum session told his colleagues that most kidney donations come from the chareidi and dati leumi communities. He spoke of the ‘Matnat Chaim’ organization http://www.kilya.org.il/en/ headed by Rabbi Yeshayahu Haber, which works to find kidneys for persons in need of a transplant. The organization was recognized by the Knesset for its outstanding life-saving work.
Rabbi Haber explains that 90% of kidney donations come from the religious and chareidi communities. Rav Eichler added that he is not certain that amid the realization of these facts, one might think twice before accusing the religious community of only taking care of itself.
