Panim Meiros Fire update: Firefighters have the blaze under control and residents are being permitted to return to their homes. Baruch Hashem there are no reports of injuries.
The Ramot fire is still active but it appears the fire is no longer spreading.
There is speculation that at least some of the fires are the result of Lag B’Omer bonfires that got out of control. JNF officials reported this earlier but Israel Fire Service officials are not confirming the cause of any of the fires at this time as some of the blazes are still active.
FIRST REPORT 4:41PM IL: Another fire is reported in Yerushalayim this Lag B’Omer afternoon amid extremely hot and dry conditions. The newest fire in reported on Mem Gimmel Street in the Romeima neighborhood, not far from the Magen David Adom Jerusalem District Headquarters.
The source of the blaze is reportedly on Mem Gimmel Street in the direction of Lifta. A number of homes on Panim Meiros Street have been evacuated. B’chasdei Hashem there are no reports of injuries.
Over 48 fire apparatus and some 12 firefighting planes working to bring other fires in the capital under control. The Ramot fire is still out of control as is the fire in Gilo.
