Time Will Tell if the Change in the Image is Accompanied by a New Policy

The cabinet on Sunday voted to change the name of the Sela Disengagement Authority to T’nufa (Momentum), a change that was really warranted since the former name was truly tainted with inaction and corruption. More importantly however is the decision carries the practical aspect that the agency will continue funding daycare for the children of families of the former Gaza communities.

Credit goes to Science Minister Rabbi Dr. Daniel Hershkowitz, who in his capacity as chairman of the committee responsible for seeing to the needs of the expellee families brought the daycare issue to the government agenda.

Some may wonder why such a move is necessary four years after the expulsion, but statistics tell the real story, and sadly, today, the overwhelming majority of the former Gaza Jewish communities live in temporary housing, many unemployed, some divorced and many enduring difficulties stemming in no small part due to the national government’s failure to adhere to its word, to make certain the refugees of Gush Katif are provided for, to enable them to reestablish their lives after the expulsion.
