Madoff Computer Aides O’Hara, Perez Are Arrested


arrest7.jpgTwo computer programmers who worked in Bernard Madoff’s 17th-floor offices, where he masterminded a multibillion dollar fraud, were arrested by the FBI today.Jerome O’Hara and George Perez will appear in Manhattan federal court today to faces charges of conspiracy, falsifying books and records of a broker dealer, and falsifying books and records of an investment adviser.

O’Hara, who lives on Long Island, New York, and Perez, who lives in New Jersey, are the fourth and fifth individuals to be arrested in the largest Ponzi scheme ever in the U.S. Investors were told they had $65 billion before Madoff confessed that he was using funds from new investors to pay off other investors.

Madoff is serving a 150-year sentence in federal prison. His chief aide, Frank DiPascali, has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing, as has his accountant, David Friehling.
