MK Menachem Eliezer Moses has concerns regarding the ability of bus companies to meet the demand for Lag B’Omer. Despite reassurances Moses is apprehensive, telling a session of the Knesset Ombudsman Committee headed by MK Yisrael Eichler that he does not believe there will be enough buses on Lag B’Omer.
Moses feels that the implementation of the public transportation reform which resulted in a significant drop in fares will bring many more people to the public buses instead of private charter companies as in previous years. Transportation Ministry representative Dror Gonen responded, explaining that all available buses are being enlisted for the Lag B’Omer mission, including the rental of buses from private firms.
Moses then raised the issue of the outdated electric grid at the tziyun and the need to overall the electric feed serving the area. He told committee members that the current infrastructure is sorely outdated and is a far cry from today’s accepted minimum. He lamented the same is true for the Rashbi tziyun water infrastructure.
Moses expresses gratitude that this year, for the first time despite years of pleading, benches will be in place along the route to permit people to sit and rest. Moses thanked Director-General of the Holy Sites Rabbi Yosef Schwinger along with officials in the Ministry of Religious Services, police, Ministry of Transportation and other government agencies and NGOs involved in the Lag B’Omer operation.
