NYPD Commissioner Bratton Remains Mum After Head Of Sergeants’ Union Calls For Him To Step Down

bratThere is no comment yet from Police Commissioner Bill Bratton following calls for him to step down by the head of the Sergeants Benevolent Association amid an ongoing police corruption investigation.

In an interview Sunday on the John Catsimatidis AM970 radio show, SBA President Ed Mullins said it’s time everyone is held accountable.

“We need to set a standard and we need to raise the bar and we need to build relationships with the community,” Mullins said. “I personally think Bratton has stayed too long. It’s time to go.”

Nine police officials, including four deputy chiefs, have been transferred or stripped of their guns and badges as part of internal and federal corruption probes.

The investigation is looking into whether police officers accepted gifts and trips from two Orthodox Jewish businessmen in exchange for police escorts and favors.

The two have ties to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s campaign. Both served on de Blasio’s inaugural committee and either donated or raised money for him.

The probe also involves an investigation of alleged payoffs for gun licenses.

“What I am seeing on a regular basis now at the NYPD is, it’s a ‘do-as-I-say, not a do-as-I-do’ attitude and this is coming directly from Commissioner Bratton,” Mullins said.

Mullins stated the corruption is a problem that reaches the top of the NYPD brass and that Bratton is guilty of accepting gifts himself, citing the privately funded New York Police Foundation is paying for the commissioner’s personal membership to the Harvard Club, CBS2’s Magdalena Doris reported.
