Israel Finance Ministry Weighing the Purchase of a Government Plane

bbp.jpgTreasury officials are weighing the possibility of the purchase of plane that would serve state leaders, a move that some feel will cut travel costs considerably. The plane would serve the prime minister, president, and members of the cabinet during their trips abroad.

Today, when the prime minister has to fly abroad, a plane is leased or tickets on a commercial flight are booked to accommodate the delegation. The treasury is thinking of purchasing a second hand 747 o 757, which would of course be overhauled to specifications. Such a move would carry an estimated $15-$20 million price tag.

The daily Yisrael HaYom quoting “experts” reports that it is estimated that such a plane could remain in service for up to 15 years.

  1. I remember my Grandmother A”H, a real “Bubby” type coming off an El Al flight from Israel and telling us that she went upstairs to First Class to say hello to Prime Minister Begin.

  2. Good idea. It would also make the regular planes with other passengers less prone to terror attacks. I wouldn’t want to be on a plane with the PM.
