Israel Police Traffic Division officials have already held briefings to discuss the upcoming Lag B’Omer operation that involves thousands and thousands of bus trips to and from Meron, to the tziyun of the Rashbi ZY”A.
Traffic Division Chief Commander Ilan Moore tells the media his unit will be operating at maximum capacity on Lag B’Omer to make sure the event passes safely, citing an emphasis will be placed on monitoring bus driver safety.
Moore calls on persons planning to head to Meron for Lag B’Omer to do so using public transportation and not private vehicles. He adds that police will be enforcing traffic laws and monitoring the actions of bus drivers and the decision was made to add border police and other police to the traffic detail to meet the demands of the day.
Moore adds that police are aware that a greater number of people are planning to come from abroad and therefore, announcements over the public address system in Meron will be made in English in addition to Hebrew and Yiddish, with the latter beginning last year.
Moore explains police report they are planning the event based on an expected 500,000 people making their way to Meron in a four-day period.
