Monday Afternoon News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


In a Monday afternoon head-on collision between a van and private vehicle in the Nachal I’ron area, at least 10 people were injured, one apparently in serious condition.

**A planned court stenographer warning strike is expected to contribute to significant delays in the court system.

**6 Hamas parliament members were released from Israeli prisons on Monday.

**The first major winter storm is in full swing, bringing heavy rain backed by strong winds and even stronger gusts. Flooding reported in many areas along with downed trees and other weather-related problems.

**Heavy winds resulted in a downed tree landing on the railroad tracks near Binyamina during Monday evening rush hour, bringing rail service to a halt.

**The winter storm downed a tree which struck a Netivot home, resulting in damage and a power outage. An elderly woman in the home sustained light injuries only Baruch Hashem.

**A passenger arriving at Ben-Gurion Airport from Holland was detained for a drug test. A search of the passenger’s bag revealed 60 cockatiels. The passenger was detained and the birds quarantined. They are said to be worth NIS thousands on the local market.
