On Sunday, April 17, Councilman David G. Greenfield will host a tree giveaway at the Midwood Public Library at E. 16th Street and Avenue J in Brooklyn. The event is a collaboration between Councilman Greenfield and the New York Restoration Project. The giveaway will begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m. or until all 150 of the free trees have been distributed. Due to high demand, all interested in receiving a tree are encouraged to register for a tree online prior to the event at nyrp.org. There will be a limited number of trees available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Trees are good for the environment and they beautify our neighborhoods,” said Councilman Greenfield. “I’m so happy to be bringing this tree giveaway to my district again this year.”

Trees are limited to one per household and must be planted within the five boroughs. Trees from the event cannot be planted along streets, in city parks, in containers or on roofs. The resident or family accepting the free tree is responsible for properly watering and maintaining it.

This giveaway is another example of Councilman Greenfield’s commitment to beautifying the 44th City Council District which includes Borough Park, Midwood and Bensonhurst. Since taking office, Councilman Greenfield has funded several projects to maintain and enhance the community’s streets. These projects include sweeping commercial stretches to eliminate litter, tree plantings in Borough Park, graffiti removal, renovating playgrounds across the district and repaving local streets. Greenfield’s initiative to clean up Borough Park has been so successful that Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced a similar citywide beautification project, CleaNYC.

“I am proud of my efforts to beautify the community since taking office. I am committed to improving our neighborhoods and ensuring that residents have clean streets and green spaces to enjoy. I will continue to work with city agencies and partner with community groups to build on these efforts and improve my constituents’ quality of life,” added Councilman Greenfield.
