NYPD Reassigns Another High-Profile Chief Amid Federal Corruption Probe


capIn connection with the on-going joint investigation with the FBI and Department of Justice, the NYPD took the following administrative action today. Deputy Chief Andrew Capul, Executive Officer – Patrol Borough Manhattan North has been transferred and is being re-assigned to an administrative position pending further review.

He is the latest high-ranking police official to be either modified or reassigned as a result of the joint probe by the FBI and the US Justice Department. Capul was questioned by the feds in connection with a plane trip he took to a Super Bowl, according to the NY Post.

Federal agents interviewed at least 20 officers on whether they accepted gifts in exchange for favors. The probe has centered on two businessmen who have ties to de Blasio’s campaign. He has said he has not accepted money from them for his re-election.

Four other senior officials were also reassigned.

Capul made headlines in 2014 when he was punched in the head by a Bloods Gang member during an Eric Garner protest in Harlem.

He was an Inspector at the time.
