A Look at Israel’s Matzah and Wine Exports From Israel


matzThe Ministry of the Economy reports on the matzah production in Israel ahead of Pesach 5776. Exports to the United States are reportedly $7 million and $5 million to Europe. Most of the export to Europe goes to England ($1.7 million) followed by Italy ($1 million), France ($700,000), and Belgium ($600,000).

Argentina also imports $130,000 in matzah from Israel as well as Holland ($103,000), Brazil ($88,000), Romania ($25,000), Azerbaijan ($19,000), and even Nigeria ($4,500) and the Congo ($1,600). Most of the matzos shipped are shmura, light, whole wheat, organic, chocolate covered, and rye.

Israeli wines are also finding themselves on a growing number of seder tables around the world. In 2015 exports reached $36.5 million with two-thirds going to the United States and Canada. One quarter heads to European countries led by France ($3 million), Britain ($1.7 million), and Germany, Italy and Belgium.
