Israeli citizen Ouda Tarabin, who was imprisoned for 15 years by Egypt after being convicted of spying for Israel, now faces another challenge – the destruction of his home by Israeli authorities. Tarabin was released from an Egyptian prison in 2015 after serving his sentence.
Now, just months after being released, he was served with a demolition order for the home he built near his parent’s home in a Negev area Bedouin community. According to the Walla News report, family members have denounced the demolition order, shouting officials should be ashamed of themselves.
The ‘home’ is little more than a metal shed that he erected to permit being aside his parents, who live north of Beersheva. After his release he met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and thousands visited his parent’s home to give him a chizuk. He also has plans to wed in the near future but pushed off those plans since his home is about to be destroyed. He explains he must find a new place to live after spending NIS 60,000 or the shed that is being torn down for being built illegally.
Walla reports Ouda called on the Prime Minister’s Office to assist, explaining the shed is temporary and he purchased a plot of land in the Bedouin municipality of Rahat and he hopes to move there with his wife in the future. However, if the shed is Torn down he will not have anywhere to live until his home in Rahat is ready. “I don’t understand what they want from me. It is a small home of a few meters” he adds. To date, the PM’s Office has not assisted.
