Jerusalem Councilman Yitzchak Pindrus on motzei Shabbos sent a letter to his religious colleagues from the Shas, Yahadut Hatorah and Bayit Yehudi parties expressing anger over the continued chilul Shabbos in Kiryat Yovel. He is referring to the chilul Shabbos by an extension of Jerusalem City Hall, the community government which continues to air movies and offer chilul Shabbos cultural programs for residents wishing to participate.
On this past Shabbos, dozens of chareidim protested outside the building as the chilul Shabbos took place. He questions “How can we remain a part of the Jerusalem council with a majority yet the chilul Shabbos continues?”
Shlomo Glick, a chareidi member of the Kiryat Yovel community council insists that Mayor Nir Barkat remains determined that Kiryat Yovel maintains its secular character despite its growing religious population.
