PA (Palestinian Authority) representatives in Geneva are working to compel the UN Human Rights Organization to convene in urgent session to discuss the findings of its Goldstone Commission, which speaks of Israeli war crimes against Gazan residents during Operation Cast Lead.
PA official in Switzerland, Ibrahim Harisha announced the recent violence and clashes surrounding the Temple Mount have given the PA the impetus to advance the Goldstone report issue with UN human rights officials.
During a Ramallah meeting on Friday with US Mideast envoy George Mitchell, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) stated he plans to continue pressuring UN human rights officials to hold special sessions to address the alarming findings of the UN fact-finders, hoping to bring it to a special Security Council session as well.
Ramallah media sources report Abu Mazen is turning to Arab leaders to join his effort to pressure the UN to bring the Goldstone findings to the international body, in urgent session, to address the war crimes allegations against Israeli leaders and the IDF.
Senior PA official Dr. Saeb Erekat explained that the PA is not a member but only an observer, and therefore, requires 16 signatories to compel a special vote, confirming the PA has turned to Arab and European Union nations towards obtaining the necessary support.
In Jerusalem, officials are using this momentum to state it can now be seen who truly wishes to advance regional peace efforts and who feels otherwise.
