Report: Eli Yishai May Join the Kulanu Party

yishAccording to a report released by Moti Tuchfeld in Yisrael Hayom, former Shas party leader Eli Yishai has been speaking with Kulanu party leader Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon about possibly joining that party. Yishai ran under the Yachad banner during the last Knesset elections but failed to earn sufficient votes to enter the 20th Knesset.

According to the report, if Yishai joins Kulanu, he will be number two, behind party leader Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon.

One can only wonder how Yishai could join the party, which maintains a liberal religious platform at best, and an anti-religious platform at worst. The party supports public transportation on Shabbos and is demanding to modify Moshe Gafne’s mikve bill before supporting it in the second and third readings in Knesset. The bill circumvents a High Court ruling regarding a Reform convert wishing to toivel in a Beersheva public mikve but Kulanu fears the bill will eradicate liberal advances for women toiveling in Chief Rabbinate-run mikvaos around Israel.

Both Yishai and Kahlon deny any such negotiations are taking place.

  1. No one needs to wonder how Rabbi Yishai could join such a party because both he and the party leader deny there have been any such negotiations. We all know all politicians only ever tell the truth.
