Barak Permits Lulav Imports from Gaza

lulavim.jpgDefense Minister Ehud Barak has given his approval for the importation of lulavim via Gaza, originating in el-Arish in Egypt. Officials explain the move was influenced by the realization that banning the imports would result in a shortage, which would create a cartel. The availability of al-Arish lulavim will drive prices down, officials hope. Minister of Religious Services Yaakov Margi approached the defense minister, urging him to approve the imports.

The move will involve the IDF Liaison Office as well as the Religious Services Ministry and other agencies.

According to a HaMevaser report, R’ Margi personally thanked Minister Barak for his prompt response and willingness to take the cost factor of the community purchasing 4 minim into consideration.
