Israel Police, the IDF and other security agencies remain on high alert to prevent terror attacks during Yom Kippur. Special attention is focused on holy places, including the Kosel and Jerusalem’s Old City and Chevron.
Thousands have been making their way to the Machpelah ahead of Yom Kippur.
Police will also be out in force following last years violence which was sparked by an Arab driver making his way through the Jewish area on Yom Kippur. The incident sparked race riots throughout the city that continued well after Yom Kippur ended. Police commanders announced everything possible will be done to maintain law and order in the racially mixed city.
A closure has been imposed on PA (Palestinian Authority) residents of Yehuda and Shomron, who will be prohibited from crossing the Green Line into Israel proper until after Yom Kippur.
