Brooklyn, NY—New York City Council Member Simcha Felder (D – Boro Park, Midwood, Bensonhurst) praised Mayor Michael Bloomberg for committing $223,000 to upgrade security at Kingsborough Community College. The upgrades will modernize the campus’s central security console and monitors while extending the coverage of the security
system. The project will also make the system more efficient by allowing security monitoring to be consolidated in a single location.
“I thank the Mayor for his commitment to these much needed upgrades,” said Felder. This project highlights the Mayor’s commitment to ensuring that all schools in New York City can provide a safe and comfortable environment for students and faculty.”
These enhancements will increase the coverage provided by the school’s surveillance system from 30 percent of the campus to approximately 60 percent. It will also allow the security operator to respond to emergency phone calls and alarms, while monitoring camera activity from one location. The improved surveillance system will protect campus property from theft and vandalism. The project is particularly timely given the current security climate and the growth of the Kingsborough campus community.
“On behalf of the more than 30,000 individuals who attend classes, teach, work, or visit the Kingsborough Community College campus every week, I wish to thank Mayor Bloomberg along with Councilman Felder for supporting our efforts to enhance our college’s electronic security system,” said school President Regina Peruggi. “These funds will help us to continue to provide the safe and secure environment that is so essential for learning.”
