The following is via NY1:

The NYPD tells NY1 it’s putting a freeze on promotions after allegations of cheating on the Lieutenant’s exam.

And now, nine sergeants have filed a lawsuit against the city saying the test was flawed and the city did nothing about it.

In a story you saw earlier this month on NY1, about 24-hundred sergeants took the exam given by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services last year.

Only about 7% passed.

But nearly 48% passed the make-up exam.

Sergeants say many who took the makeup knew the answers because this answer key had been posted online by someone who had taken the first exam.

One sergeant who failed the test told NY1 some members purposely missed the initial exam knowing the make-up would have the same questions.

“Many people know the game. If they call out sick or what we call line of duty. They get injured on the job prior to the exam that is their excuse to take a make-up exam which was in this case months after the exam.”

The President of the Sergeant’s Benevolent Association Ed Mullins says he’s outraged by the decision to freeze the promotions.

“It’s total lunacy,” Mullins said. “This is another move by Commissioner Bratton where he just fails to make a decision that has a spine in it. I think the commissioner has lost his mind to be honest with you.”

The NYPD says it wants to investigate all allegations and any improprieties with the Lieutenant’s exam.
