Israel’s Deputy Representative to the United Nations David Roet was confronted by scores of pro-BDS protesters during a lecture to students at New York University on Thursday, Purim evening. Ambassador Roet was telling the gathering about the bias Israel faces at the UN where just today a resolution passed condemning the Jewish state for its treatment of woman, and the so-called Human Rights Council voted to create a blacklist of companies operating in Judea and Samaria.

As the Deputy Representative spoke, BDS activists held up signs accusing Israel of apartheid and demanding to “Free Palestine.”

“I agree that we need to free the Palestinians,” said Ambassador Roet. We need to free them from their corrupt leadership that never take responsibility for the wellbeing of their own people,” he continued.

After order was restored the Deputy Ambassador told the students that despite the challenges Israel faces, he remains optimistic about the future. “The BDS activists don’t want us to return to the ’67 lines, they wish to see Israel completely disappear,” Ambassador Roet explained. “We defeated the Arab boycott decades ago and I’m know that we will overcome this hateful movement as well,” he concluded.
