PHOTO ESSAY: Kaparos In The Streets Of Yerushalayim

kap1.jpgAs Yom Kippur draws near, the streets of Yerushalayim are abuzz with people “shlugging kapparos”, be they the live variety or in monetary form. Boxes of chickens can be seen on most streets in Meah Shearim as people preform this mitzvah for themselves and others. For those who prefer to do the mitzvah with money, many tzeddakah organizations have set up booths for that purpose. Be it as it may, it is a quite unusual sight and a subject of great interest to tourists and foreign journalists, for more reasons than one.
