Police Arrest Teen In Connection With Cedarhurst Swastikas

swPolice believe they have found the person who put swastikas on Cedarhurst sidewalks.

Two weeks ago, two swastikas were drawn in the neighborhood.

According to detectives, on March 7, 2016 at approximately 5:05 p.m. Carlos A. Rivera, 17 of 240 Central Avenue was walking southbound on Oxford Road when he found a piece of chalk on the ground and proceeded to draw a Swastika in front of two different homes on Oxford Road. A subsequent investigation by detectives led to the arrest of Rivera on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 8:20 p.m. at his residence.

Police arrested 17-year-old Carlos Rivera, of Lawrence, in connection with the incidents.

Rivera was charged with two counts of aggravated harassment.

Police say he was issued a desk appearance ticket.

NYS Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky gave YWN the following statement:

“I want to thank the NCPD for moving quickly to identify and apprehend this suspect. Hatred and anti-Semitism have no place in our community and I will do everything I can to stop it. When I was alerted about this horrific graffiti, I immediately went to Cedarhurst and helped remove it because our community should never have to live in fear. This is a hate crime, and anyone perpetrating such a horrific act should be charged to the fullest extent of the law.”
