Hebron police on Wednesday morning 6 Adar-II detained right-wing activist and attorney Itamar Ben-Givir who stood on steps near Beit Knesset Chazon David, which is located between Kiryat Arba and Hebron. Police instructed Ben-Givir to leave the area. He explained police permit using the steps that lead to the Givat HaAvot neighborhood, warning them they are exposing themselves to a civil suit. He was then detained by police.
During police questioning Ben-Givir announced he plans to file a lawsuit against police for their illegal actions. Prior to his release he was asked to sign a document containing restrictions governing his release, prohibiting him from using the steps in question. He refused to sign and asked to be arraigned in court. Police then released him without restrictions, preferring to avoid the arraignment.
Following his release Ben-Givir said “It is very sad that instead of Hebron police fighting terrorist attacks they are harassing Jews. Even sadder is the right hand of police doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Police asked me to clear the steps that lead to my home while other police encourage using these very same steps”.
