PBA Survey Finds Morale Low Among NYPD Officers

nypdMorale is low among an overwhelming majority of the NYPD, according to a new poll from the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.

The PBA found 96 percent of officers polled believe police-community relations have gotten worse in the last few years.

Eighty-seven percent also the city has become less safe since Mayor Bill de Blasio took office in 2014 and appointed Police Commissioner Bill Bratton.

Eighty-nine percent say they would leave the department if offered a higher-paying law enforcement job elsewhere, and 86 percent would not recommend the job to a family member.

More than 6,000 PBA members took part in the poll, with nearly half of them having served with the NYPD for more than 10 years.

The NYPD says it has not yet received the survey results, and will review them if and when they do.
In a statement, the mayor’s office disputed the poll, saying in part, “These findings are highly suspect and fly in the face of the facts. We are experiencing historic lows in criminal activity. Murders and shootings are at their lowest in modern history.”
