Jewish Agency officials will be meeting in Washington on Tuesday with the head of the International Red Cross, at which time hundreds of Rosh Hashanah cards for Gilad Shalit will be presented, along with a request that the humanitarian organization makes certain the cards reach the captive IDF soldier.
In addition, a petition containing thousands of signatures will be presented, calling on the International Red Cross to pressure Hamas towards obtaining Shalit’s release.
On erev Rosh Hashanah, a small number of Shalit activists held a symbolic yomtov meal outside the Prime Minister’s Office to send a reminder to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, that Shalit remains in captivity for his fourth Rosh Hashanah.
In a related matter, 1,183 participants in the Berlin marathon last week were among the 40,000 runners. The Shalit runners wore a turquoise bracelet with the number 1,183 on it, coinciding with the number of days the soldier was in captivity.
