Interior Minister Aryeh Deri on Wednesday morning 29 Adar-I visited Beit Shemesh, where he was met by Mayor Moshe Abutbul and other city officials. Deri was taken to see new areas that are under construction in Ramat Bet Shemesh Gimmel, including the new neighborhood called Chazon Ovadia, named after HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L .
Rabbi Yaakov Sasson, a grandchild of Rav Ovadia, explained the symbolism of naming the neighborhood after the late gadol, citing it was 60 years ago when Rav Ovadia began writing his Shut Chazon Ovadia. “There is no doubt that Maran is escorting us from above in establishing this neighborhood, which will be full of talmidei chachamim” said Rav Sasson.
The minister stressed the importance of creating jobs, explaining the construction of homes without job opportunities is a mistake. He explained officials are aware of this and that is why part of the plan for development of the new communities includes job opportunities.
