Mr. Noam Shalit on Wednesday joined the list of people rejecting the findings of the UN Goldstone Commission, probing the IDF’s actions during Cast Lead. The UN investigators refer to Gilad Shalit as a “prisoner of war” and not as a “captive” or “hostage” as Mr. Shalit does. Noam Shalit pointed out that even if Gilad is a prisoner of war, one can only question why he is not granted the minimum rights given to POWs, visits from humanitarian agencies and other basic human rights, and all the while the UN remains silent. He asks the commission why Gilad is not receiving visits from medical professionals and family members.
The committee ruled that Gilad is indeed entitled to all rights of a POW, including visitation and medical care.
Shalit has exhibited pain this week with the realization his son is about to mark his fourth Rosh Hashanah in captivity, adding his continued incarceration by Hamas violates international law as well as the Rome Convention.
Today, Thursday, a vehicle carrying a Rosh Hashanah gift for Gilad will be given to a member of the press at Erez Crossing, in the hope Hamas will pass it to him. One Hamas officials already announced the package will not be given to Gilad since they fear it may be booby trapped.
At the Erez exchange, Hamas will give 100 packages for Israel to deliver to imprisoned Hamas terrorists as a Ramadan gesture.

Why did Israel leave Gaza without retrieving Shalit? I’m sure Condoleeza put the pressure. Why did Bush and Obama and all their officials never mention this issue?
