Another shomer shabbos officer is about to join the General Staff, IDF Judge Advocate General Brigadier-General Avichai Mandelblitt, who is being promoted to the rank of major-general.

After much debate, earlier this week, Defense Minister Ehud Barak made the recommendation for promotion to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi. Mandelblitt has held his post for the past five years, and his performance is the subject of praise by many. He resides in Petach Tikvah, and some of his children attend chareidi mosdos.

The decision to promote him to major-general received the blessings of many, including the Supreme Court.
