Otzer Meforshei HaPshat Chumash – a Review by Rabbi Yair Hoffman

otzermeforshei[For the Five Towns Jewish Times]

For the Rabbi or Morah that is preparing, it is a veritable dream. For the Baal haBas, it is equally incredible. This Chumash has a unique structure that asks questions on each pasuk, and lines up the answers culled from the gedolei HaMeforshim.

The author of the Chumash is Rav Naftoli Greenbaum, who is both a remarkable Talmid Chochom as well as a prolific writer. The commentaries that he has culled are no mere superficial rendition of the pshat. Rav Greenbaum has unfolded the latent pshat in these commentaries as well as the explicit pshat.

The meforshim chosen range the gamut from Rav Saadya Gaon to most of teh rishonim and acharonim and also include the Netziv and the Malbim.

Teachers of Chumash in Eretz Yisroel, New York, Miami and Lakewood have saved hundreds of hours in preparation by utilizing this five volume set. It is also the type of Chumash that can help the reader find the answer to almost any question.

Rav Greenbaum also includes an occasional footnote for extra clarity, but most of the time, it is not necessary. There is no Chumash like it in either Hebrew or English.

The Chumash has haskamas from Rav Tuvya Weiss and lhbc”l Rav Michel Yehudah Lefkowitz.

The project is sponsored by David and Devorah Hershfeld.

This author highly recommends this Chumash.
