Thousands of Jerusalem preschoolers remained at home on Wednesday, the result of a municipal strike. Kindergarten assistants are part of the strike, resulting in the closure of city kindergartens. Today, Thursday, parent volunteers will take up position in the kindergartens, replacing the assistants, permitting the daycare centers to open.
The opening of the kindergartens is part of an agreement reached between City Hall and the PTA.
There is another strike in the capital as well, involving the city’s PTA and teachers’ union, resulting in the closure of 20 schools. City sanitation workers are also striking. The school officials are striking because they feel sanitary conditions are unacceptable, the result of the sanitation workers’ strike. The city has hired a private sanitation service so hopefully; all schools will be open on Friday.
