Investigators are working to pinpoint who fired, when and whether police themselves fired any of the shots that injured two officers in a confrontation with a suspect in New York City.
It’s standard for police shooting investigations to look into the possibility of what’s known as “friendly fire.”
Police Commissioner William Bratton said Saturday’s shooting in Brooklyn was complex and involved eight officers.
He says multiple officers fired after Funes pointed a gun at police, drove away and rammed a police car.
Officers William Reddin and Andrew Yurkiw were shot. They’re in stable condition.
Police say suspect Jamal Funes is in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
No working phone number for Funes’ family could immediately be found. It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer who can comment.
