The president speaks of Gilad’s “unacceptable detention” and “deprivation of liberty”, assuring Noam and Aviva Shalit that Gilad is “not forgotten” and efforts are ongoing to bring him home.
The president has instructed his country’s new ambassador to Israel, Christophe Bigot, to contact the parents upon his arrival towards maintaining an ongoing dialogue.
Recent messages released by Hamas indicate there is no imminent deal on the horizon as reported by numerous Arab media sources. Government officials continue to release messages that the matter is high on its agenda, opting to decline to release statements to the media, explaining such actions do not serve to advance talks towards reaching an agreement with Hamas.

Obama is so so concerned about prosecuting interrogators who threatened 911 killers because they may have hurt the monster’s feelings. Yet he is pushing hamas’ agenda while they torture a jewish young man that they kidnapped. He is so so busy keeping jews out of jerusalem while wildfires are keeping people out of their calif homes. Obama the first step in human rights is to get a jewish man out of the hands of monsters. Everything else pales in comparison. Tell hamas there is nothing to talk about until they release him. They are known torturers. We didn’t forget the palestinian showing off the blood on his hands in ramallah through the window.
