Arab Driver Runs Over Avreich During Shabbos Stormy Protests

hafganah1.jpgThe Eida Chareidis made good on its promise to step up protests against the city’s opening of Karta parking lot on shabbos, beginning this week’s protest with candle lighting and maintaining a presence for much of shabbos.

On Friday, one of the mispalalim, R’ Koppel Schwartz of Toldos Aaron was run over by an Arab who then fled the scene. According to the many witnesses, the victim was dragged for tens of meters while shouting in pain. R’ Koppel is reported in moderate condition on Sunday morning.

Channel 2 cameraman Ibrahim Ri’ad of Abu Gosh captured the attack on film, but the license number of the vehicle was not legible. Later on, the driver turned himself over to police.

The erev shabbos protests and tefillos continued until about 12:00am. The protests and tefillos resumed on shabbos morning, and mispalalim from a number of shuls headed for the protest site following krias ha’torah, finishing davening at the protest.

Eida officials report “thousands” took part in the protests this shabbos. At least 17 people were in custody on motzei shabbos, and 6 were released. It appears the remainder will be remanded on Sunday. Police report two personnel injured.

Eida officials, who usually do not use the state system, are indicating complaints will be filed against officer Alon Weinstein, stating his actions were in the realm of ‘pikuach nefesh’ and therefore, they will use the system. Civil suits are planned along with a complaint with the Justice Ministry’s Police Investigation Unit. According to witnesses, Weinstein used unjustifiable force, spat and used foul language against protestors and Rabbonim taking part in the protest.

Eyewitnesses add that Weinstein instructed a car to move despite the fact a protestor was near a tire, resulting in some type of injury.

Chareidim reports that Eida officials will be meeting Sunday to discuss the actions of the officer, who placed the lives of protestors in danger, warning the next step will be using live fire against them. The Eida also decries the use of pepper spray against Rabbonim Shlita, and they plan to decide on a course of action, which may include stepped up widespread simultaneous protests.

Among those injured with pepper spray according to the Eida were R’ Moshe Kahan Shlita, Rosh Yeshiva Toldos Aaron and R’ Moshe Teitlebaum, Rav of the Yerushalayim Satmar community.

Chareidim adds the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Rebbe joined this shabbos for a first time, leading a “large number” of chassidim.

Policeman Moti Edri is also being targeted, reportedly for repeatedly using foul language at protests against Rabbonim Shlita, especially Gavaad R’ Yitzchak Tuvia Weiss Shlita.

Police officials in Jerusalem report that regarding a car moving and striking a protestor, officer Weinstein was unaware he was present, adding ordering the vehicle to move was actually intended as a move to protect protestors. Regarding the use of pepper spray, police officials insist troops were not armed with the spray and the injuries were the result of a protestor throwing a bag containing an unidentified irritant that caused the injuries.

  1. Where in Sh’as is the M’kor that we in America should keep Shaabos according to our time zone ?
Hashem himself, keeps Shaabos according the time zone of Eretz Yisroel.
Where in Shaas does it say that, at Maatan Torah, which was on Shaabos, Hashem used the time zone of E”Y.
When Hashem rested by Briyas Ho’olem, which was in Bovel, which time zone did he use?
Makas Bechoros at Chaatzos; Which time zone? Egyptian?
Where in the Misnayus or Gemoroh can we look this up?

  2. A big chillul hashem. It causes more Chillul shabbos forcing Jewish policeman to keep order.

This is not about shabbos. It’s about power. If they wanted to increase Shmiras Shabbos they should do kiruv instead. This turns people against Yiddishkeit. I hope that our gedolim will condemn this.

  3. may R’ Koppel Schwartz have a hasty refuah shlaima, but as someone who witnessed the demonstrations, it is crazy the way the protestors throw themselves in front of moving cars pulling into the parking lot, something I wouldn’t believe if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. The Inyun of Sakanas Nefashot must be addressed by the Rabonnim that are sending out their army of protestors.

  4. Congratluations Yidin! Kavod Shabbos! ader, you go according to sunrise and sunset WHERE YOU ARE.
Regarding Yom Tov, they sent torch bearers to Bovel — see Gmara Rosh HaShanoh. Hey YWN how about capitalizing words like Shabbos and Erev Shabbos and Torah and using small letters for arab names? Kavod HaTorah! Shabbos!

  5. To all the Tzadikim Protesting for “KOVED SHABBOS” Shabbos is on your side, shabbos will fight for you even on the moment it sounds like the Tziyonim are doing what they want with you, arrasting, Gas bombs, E.T.C. dont worry you will win. I wish My next “Kvitel before Tishrei will reach to one of you protesters espacilly to one that was hit, or arrested by the zionist police.

By the way there ia a lot of Comments here on YWN against you those are from pepole or Tenokes Sha’nisbi or not yidan. because a yid will not talk like that.

    CHAZAK VE”AMOTZ

  6. I continue to say, show me one person who has decided to become shomer mitzvot becaus of the protests, and I will say they were worth it. However, you can’t say that because it will never happen. Better for the mitpallim and Rebbis (shlita) to stay in the beit midrash where they belong learning Torah and figuring out how they can do better at mitzvot bein adam l’adam. The way they are acting certainly is not it.

  7. #10 UPON SPEAKING WITH A SHABBOS SCREAMER – AND SUGGESTING THAT THROWING KEEGL IS BETTER THAN STONES, HE RESPONDED THAT HE COMPLAINS NOT BECAUSE HE EXPECTS TO SWAY THE MCHAL’LEI SHABBOS TO TURN A LEAF. RATHER – IT IS SO THAT SHABBOS KODESH DOES NOT BECOME CHEAP IN HIS OWN EYES WHEN HE SEES IT BLATANTLY DESECRATED.

  8. And would someone explain to me how one is allowed to throws rocks which are muktza on shabbos and break car windows?

The eida are extremists, a minority and do not represent klal yisroel. The gedolei oilem, Rav Kook, the Imrei Emes of Gur, the Dvar Avrohom of Kovno (head of the Mizrachi in Lita), Rav ZP Frank and others were not kanoim and recognized the state of Israel. Let us announce to the world that this is not our way and we are against them.

  9. i herby amמוחה all those who disrespect the gavad and eida with thier comments who do you think you are i know the gavad he is a צדיק with beutifulמידות and torah hashkfos not american modern sense of maners כל המבזה תח etc

  10. I went to the protest unlike most commentators here.
I am against Chillul Shabbas and a change in the Status Quo,
However however those “Rabbanim” who are in favor of protest should clarify what it allowed.
I am ashamed and disgusted by so called Jews calling policemen Nazis!
In the main and from what i saw the police were very decent in doing their jobs – if this was an arab protest it would have been over in minutes with gun fire.
When i told someone that i thought it wrong to call them nazis he said then you are not a jew.
As to him and the person who said something similar above.
YOU ARE ERUV RAV. Busha Vacherpa!

  11. Does anyone think for a moment? Do you really think that Hashem wants us to risk our lives -yahareig v’al yaavor, by sitting in the streets before a moving vehicle?
Also, since when does the Torah allow us to burn trash cans, which is gezel and nezek?
Rav Sternbuch, shlita, NEVER approved of this behavior!
Those who burn trash and call fellow Jews Nazis are themselves portraying the actions of Amalek and preventing the Geulah from coming. And it doesn’t matter how big their beards are (cf. the Vilna Gaon’s Even Shleima).

  12. Thank you #15. I too have been to the protests. Folks, its a sad day when you have to question who the real Gedolei Yisrael are. All i can say is that they ain’t the Eida Hachareidis Hataliban!

We are our own worst enemies.

    Hashem Yeracheim.
