Morning commuters are being urged to be on the lookout for two new suspects in a rash of subway robberies. They’re accused of taking part in one of the more than a dozen recent attacks on subway riders.
Straphangers used to zoning out on the subways are now beginning to be more aware of their surroundings.
The NYPD just released the images of the two latest suspects, a man and a woman who they say pulled a knife on a young couple riding the 2 train.
Since January, police say one man has held up at least 14 people on subways, in broad daylight, on eight different lines, in four different boroughs. Most of his victims have been women.
Rasheen Williams, 39, was wanted for questioning in connection with the attacks. Subway trains have become crime scenes and getaway cars for a robber on the run.
Police say the suspect approaches the victims and shows a knife or pretends he has a gun.
Then he demands cash, cell phones and bank cards.
Police said the suspect held up his latest victim on the “F” train in Jamaica, Queens.
In the last month, several seperate incidents of public lewdness have also been reported.
Some victims were able to snap pictures of the suspects.
Safety experts are warning riders to be on the lookout, including putting away the headphones and books, and pay more attention to what’s going on around them, so they don’t become the latest subway robbery victims.
