Meridor Undermines PM’s Jerusalem Stance

Quoted in the German weekly Der Spiegel, Minister of Intelligence & Atomic Energy Dan Meridor stated the future of areas of Jerusalem other than the Jewish Quarter and Kosel are subject to negotiations.

The minister explained there are varying views in the current coalition government, made up of major parties including Likud, Shas, Labor and Yisrael Beitenu.

On the matter of Jerusalem, the minister quoted Pope John Paul II, who stated Jerusalem is sacred to all religions but was promised to one nation. Meridor explained that “We do not have a religious claim on the capital, but a national one”.

Meridor a number of years ago defected from Likud to join the now-defunct Center Party, more in line with his centrist policies, then taking a hiatus from political life and making his return to Likud in the current government.

  1. Someone needs to explain to Meridor that without the “religious claim”, we have no “national claim” to ANYTHING!!! It is so sad that listening to the ideas of the vast majority of Israeli politicians discussing inyanai Eretz Yisrael, is like listening to a group of garbage collectors discussing how to do brain surgery, – i.e. – CLUELESS!
