A juror says it was a “very tough decision” to convict a New York City police officer of manslaughter for the death of a man who was fatally shot in a dark public housing stairwell.
Juror Mike Vargas told the New York Daily News Thursday’s verdict was difficult for him because he comes from a family of police officers.
Vargas sat on the 12-member panel that convicted Officer Peter Liang of manslaughter and official misconduct for the 2014 death of 28-year-old Akai Gurley.
