A soldier serving in the Nachal Chareidi Battalion has been sentenced to seven months in jail and six months’ probation for beating an Arab prisoner by a military court. The incident took place a number of months ago on the Chermesh Base in Shomron.
The court explained the punishment will also serve as a deterrence for other soldiers in Nachal Chareidi.
Honenu attorney Adi Kedar succeeded in having two of the four-count indictment dismissed.
During their trial, commanders of the soldiers came to his defense, citing he has been an exemplary soldier. Nachal Chareidi Rabbi Yitzchak Bar-Chaim also testified on the soldier’s behalf.
Nevertheless, the prosecution called for a stiff sentence due to the severity of the soldier’s actions.

And if this solder were chiloni would they have punished him? Is this typical IDF anti-religiousness or an actual concern for justice?
