Identity of Credit Card Thief Cleared for Release

IDF officials have released the identity of the soldier remanded on suspicion of stealing credit card details from the office of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi in the Kirya. The soldier, 20, immigrated to Israel in 2004 from Argentina and entered the IDF last August.

The soldier has a combat profile, but the daily Yisrael HaYom reports he was assigned to a non-combatant position due to “personal issues”. He lives with a friend in Ra’anana and his parents live in Kfar Saba.

Colleagues admit he is respected as a soldier and news of his arrest has resulted in surprise.

Two others involved in the affair, which involves the theft of the credit card information and the theft of and sale of a weapon, were indicted in the Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday.
