Kadima opposition party officials are opposed to calls for the release of Fatah Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti from an Israeli prison. Barghouti is serving 5 life sentences for his heinous terror acts.
Kadima leader MK Tzipi Livni expressed her opposition to a prisoner release deal for the return of Gilad Shalit that would result in setting Barghouti free, responding to a statement from Minister of Minority Affairs (Labor) Prof. Avishai Braverman, who indicated support for such a move. Livni stated she cannot support the early release of murderers. Also expressing opposition to the move was former Shin Bet director, Avi Dichter.
Dichter stated “That man is a murderer with the blood of five Israelis on his hand”, stating he mustn’t be released in any deal.
In last week’s Fatah Assembly in PA-occupied Bet Lechem, Barghouti was elected as the new Fatah leader.
