14-year-old Yankel Shinkovski from Bnei Brak was the subject of an intensive search involving many volunteers during the night. Tracking dogs were out in the area along with 4-wheel drive vehicles, searching for Yankel, who disappeared during a family hike in the Nachal Sfunim area.

Yankel and his family, 14 siblings and their parents, headed for a bein hazmanim hike in the area of the Carmel Forest. Meir, the father, explained that after walking for a while they realized the little ones were beginning to get thirsty so the decision was made to head back to the car for water. When they returned to the vehicle they realized that Yankel, who was holding the car keys, was missing.

Boruch Hashem the yinele was found and all stories shuold have a hapy ending. Maye from ow on families and bochurim willnot go onhikes in Israel, Gateshead or wherever. Everydy we read in the paper how they get lost or dehydrated. When I ws reading the story of the family of 15 blieinhara, I couldn’t believe how they would go for hiking. WHo in their right mind would do womehting liek that. Obviously they had little children with them and they didn’t even take the water with them. Plese others write back. am I the only one who was thinking of this

  3. Since it does appear that hiking in the woods is a popular activity among frum Jews, this is an argument for Hareidi boy scouts (and girl scouts) so people who go off into the woods will all come back, all the time, in one piece. While in the United States, it is possible to have a hareidi scout troop with the American Boy Scouts of America, I doubt that would be possible in Israel which would therefore require a separate (new) organization.
