A Jewish woman is in stable condition following a stabbing attack in the Monkland Village early Wednesday morning.
According to police, the 27-year-old was walking by herself on Monkland Avenue near Girouard at around 12:45AM, when she was attacked by a man carrying a sharp weapon and stabbed in her upper body.
When the police arrived, they found the woman in critical condition. She was transported to a local hospital and her condition has stabilized.
“When the police officers arrived at the scene they discovered a lady with upper body injuries. She got transported to hospital [in critical condition],” Officer Benoit Boiselle told CTV News.
Boiselle said that after discovering the stabbing victim, police rushed to locate the person who had attacked her, getting help from search dogs.
“The suspect had left the scene before officers arrived, but the canine unit caught the guy and officers arrested him,” said Boiselle.
The 25-year-old attacker had been hiding under a balcony nearby, and most likely would not have been found if it were not for the search dogs.
It remains unclear whether or not the victim and suspect know each other, or if the attack was connected to the woman’s Jewish identity.
