It is well-known that among Israel’s security concerns is the growing number of daily cyberattacks from around the world. In his address to the two-day CyberTech 2016 Conference hosted in Tel Aviv this week, Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy & Water Dr. Yuval Steinitz revealed Israel’s electric grid came under attack and Israel successfully repelled the virus that was aimed at crippling the nation’s electricity system.
“Israel is currently experiencing one of the most severe cyber-attack on the Israel National Electricity Authority”, he explained, adding the attack was discovered a day earlier and as a result, “We had to paralyze many of the computers off the Israel Electric Company. We are handling the situation and I hope that soon, this very serious event will be over”.
The minister did not reveal the identity of the attackers but it is known many of Israel’s enemies including ISIS and Hizbullah are constantly working to attack Israel via its computer systems.
