Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on Sunday night traveled to the Kalever Rebbe Shlita, in the Ezras Torah/Shichun Chabad neighborhood of the city. What should have been a pleasance experience was marred by a small group of chareidim who sat on the ground and blocked the mayor’s vehicle as well as throwing rocks. While the mayor’s vehicle was damaged, he and others were uninjured. A large police response followed, and the mayor was extricated without incident.
The mayor arrived in the area at about 9:00pm, at the behest of the Rebbe Shlita. When the mayor tried to leave, the small group began shouting “shabbos shabbos” and the rocks began flying.
The security team managed to get the mayor into the waiting vehicle, while Yassam commando forces responded to the scene and the crowd was quickly dispersed.
The mayor released statements that the violence and unacceptable behavior will not accomplish anything, and he will never acquiesce to such actions.
The Yahadut HaTorah party released a statement condemning the attack, stating such actions are not the torah derech.

There is nothing “Chareidi” about their actions, and it doesnt behoove a frum website to blare such a headline which is usually found in anti-frum publications.
“What apparently were Jews dressed in traditional Yerushalmi, Eastern European, Yeshiva style clothing” is far more accurate and far less condemning than the term chareidi. A chareidi – one who is charad l’dvar HaShem – dresses in many different ways and styles but generally ALL act the ssame way; with derech eretz and in accordance with the directives of Torah leaders. Never would a chareidi act – regardless of the way the dress – in a fashion that would need to be condemned by any group of shomrei Torah u’mitzvos.
i saw the whole story
there was nobody injured
there no rochs flying
there was no large police force (3 cars and a motorcycle)
A Chareidi is just as human as even a MO – we all have yetzer harah – and to suggest that because one dresses in a certain way he is automatically a good person is simply nuts!
I personally know too many people who profess to be “frum” whose behavior is quite embarrassing.
Flatbusher – you surely weren’t there. yeahright claims to have been there. I somehow doubt that Yechiel Spira was there. He didn’t say “they made up the whole thing,” he said it was inaccurate, an exaggeration. Definitely possible.
Unfortunately, we have seen too many postings on this site that come from sources that have no respect for religious Jews. These should be doubly checked when posted!
