Rally Lends Legitimacy to To’eva Community

ywnisrael4.jpgThe shooting attack against the to’eva community in Eretz Yisrael which left two dead and others wounded, has resulted in an outpouring of support for the community, support that it has never known in the past, including the participation of Shimon Peres at the solidarity rally on motzei shabbos.

The to’eva community decided to hold a motzei shabbos rally in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square, a week following the attack. The event was attended by many notables, most prominently by the president, who addressed the estimated 20,000 participants.

Mr. Peres condemned the shooting attack and vowed police would apprehend the shooter.

Also in attendance was Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, as well as a number of famous entertainers.

The rally is major news in the Israeli media, with newspapers carrying photos of the event, which is a major boost for the to’eva community.

  1. This act of violence has only benefited the victim. While violent actions may make the news and make the participants and their supporters feel good, it builds support for those whom the action was taken. In the long run, it is self defeating.

  2. It was a rally to condemn a shooting, a murder, which YWN seems less concerned about than whatever “legitimacy” is gained through such condemnation.

It’s sickening that a headline on this website would focus on this rather than the fact that 2 are dead.

  3. No surprises here. In the late 1980’s the reform community in Jerusalem ended up getting major funding & a nice piece of land from the Jerusalem municipality because a Rav & some other Orthodox Jews came to their simchas torah “celebration” and took a sefer Torah away from a woman who was dancing with it.

This led to howling from the media & a major fundraising campaign in the US. They raised a ton of cash & the mayor of Jerusalem gave them a piece of land. Until then they had been meeting in a school gym!!

Now, the reform now have a huge building at the end of Emek Refaim in Jerusalem. A KEY location. And they can thank Orthodox Jews for it.

Now with the toeva community….look, this is what happens when one doesn’t have Torah values; one can be disgusted with the terrible shooting & murder last week without thinking the community should get more money or support etc. But the secular world doesn’t make that separation.

I highly doubt a “frum” person had anything to do with the shooting. But in the case of what happened with the reform Jews & simchas Torah I think there is a strong lesson: better to just focus on bringing the individual Jews closer to Torah. Ignore the movement. Every time any frum person attacks them – it is fuel for their engine. They are surely not running off of Torah learning & Shabbos, are they? But when the frum attack, it unifies them & gives them purpose!!

This is happening with the toeva folks….but this time, it is likely not frum Jews giving them the fuel (B”H).

  4. Hey did any of you wonderfull politicians cry out against the incitement against the Haredi community? Did you cry out against the threats made against members of the Haredi community? Or did you just show your support for the TO’eva community, without saying anything, and as such supported, de-facto, incitement against the Haredi community. Please remember that sinat chinam comes in many forms. You should be crying out against the tradgedy that these children will have died in vain if we can not bring ourselves to understand the many hatreds it has brought upon us.

  5. It really suprises me the comments people make on a yeshiva world news site, theres nothing yeshiva about a few comments made here and i wonder why the staff of the yeshiva world news would permit such comments. if this is going to be a place were the supporters of the toava world come out then dont put there comments on this site or change the name of this site to cnn or any other news site , enough with such backword hashkafa! we maye live in america but this site is the YESHIVA WORLD NEWS HASHEM yirachem if this is what is said! and is called the yeshiva world news !

  6. It should be pointed out that in this case, the religious world did NOTHING to cause this to’eiva maniac to kill his friends or to be blamed for the acts of this to’eiva sicko and murderer. The Israeli police continue to place a blackout on all their leads and info about this murder in order to allow the Israeli Liberals to have a field day with the case; using it to: a. bash the religious and/or any other moral people, b. build sympathy and support for these mush’chosim. By the time they allow the truth to be released, the damage will have already been done.

  7. From the perspective of zionism, and its goal of being a national like all other nations, i.e., one that has thrown off the yoke of Torah — all forms of gilui ariyos are legitimate. From the zionist perspective, Torah Judaism, regarless of whether it wears a kippah srugah or a strimel, is what lacks legitimacy.

What’s disgusting is that you’re ready to assume that everyone inevitably commits the forbidden act. Your problem, ostensibly, is the fact that you have such a narrow view of the issue. To you, it is a purely physical thing, whereas any psychologist would tell you that there are significant emotional factors as well…it’s not just who you are physically attracted to, it is who you develop certain emotional bonds with. If you step back and look at reality, it is entirely possible that the people you would consider “toevah” really are not over the issur. But your narrow-minded and ill-informed view prevents you from being dan l’kav zchus. Before berating others, try working on that.
